MacBook Buying Guide for Kenya
"MacBook" is a consistently searched term in Kenya, and for good reason — Apple's laptops have a loyal following for their build quality, battery life and smooth day-to-day experience. But "MacBook" covers a wide range of machines spanning nearly a decade of very different hardware, so here's how to actually choose.
MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro: the real difference
MacBook Air is Apple's thin-and-light everyday laptop, built for browsing, documents, everyday multitasking and long battery life in a fanless, silent design. MacBook Pro is built for sustained, demanding workloads — its extra cooling and performance headroom mostly matter for video editing, heavy coding, or other work that pushes the processor hard for extended periods. For most everyday use, Air is the better value; Pro's advantages only really show up under sustained heavy load.
Apple silicon vs Intel: this matters more than Air vs Pro
The single biggest factor in a MacBook's real-world speed and battery life isn't Air vs. Pro — it's whether the machine runs Apple silicon (the M-series chips) or an older Intel processor.
- Our 2017 Intel Core i5 MacBook Air is a genuinely capable everyday machine at a lower price point, but it won't match the performance-per-watt or battery life of the newer Apple silicon models below.
- Our M1 Pro MacBook Pro models bring Apple silicon's efficiency to demanding creative work, with noticeably better sustained performance and battery life than an equivalent Intel-era machine.
- Our M3 MacBook Air is our newest and most capable Mac in stock — Apple's latest chip generation, with a full 1TB SSD, delivering the best combination of speed, efficiency and storage we currently carry.
If budget allows even a small stretch, choosing Apple silicon over an older Intel MacBook is usually worth it — the difference in daily responsiveness and battery life is substantial, not marginal.
Memory matters more on a Mac than on most laptops
Apple's unified memory is built into the chip and cannot be upgraded after purchase, so it's worth buying the RAM you'll actually need upfront rather than planning to add more later. If you work with large creative files or run several demanding apps simultaneously, our 32GB M1 Pro MacBook Pro gives meaningfully more headroom than the 16GB configuration — and that difference can't be fixed after the fact the way it can on many Windows laptops.
Our current Mac lineup at a glance

- Best for creative work: MacBook Pro M1 Pro, 16GB or the 32GB configuration for heavier workloads
- Best overall, newest chip: MacBook Air M3, 1TB
